“This program has touched the lives of many families who have given birth at The Ottawa Hospital over the past 14 years. Since 2009, the program provided newborn essentials: onesies, sleepers, receiving blankets, washcloths among other necessities.
Each year, the rising cost of living impacts many, including single parents, newcomers, those earning below a living wage and families who struggle to afford essentials. The layette sets offer the joy of being able to provide something new to their baby and the gratitude expressed by those parents upon receiving a layette is heartwarming.
With continued support of this program, Social Work will be able to gift layette sets to families in need and make a positive difference in their lives as they welcome their newborn.”

The Layette Program is committed to providing essential support to mothers and hospitalized patients in need. Our aim is to offer a helping hand during critical times by supplying vital items for newborn care who lack family support or financial means.
The arrival of a baby is a joyous yet challenging time, especially for mothers facing financial difficulties.The joy of going home is tempered by the realization that they lack basic items for the trip home.
Support for Mothers: We provide layettes, which are packages of essential items for newborns, including clothing, blankets, and basic care products, to mothers who need them.
Easing the Transition: By providing essential items for their newborns, we help alleviate some of the financial burden on the mothers, allowing them to focus on their baby’s health and well-being.
Fostering a Supportive Community: Our program is a testament to the power of community support, showing those in need that they are not alone during challenging times.
